All fragrances are 100% Authentic with money back guarantee. Hence in summary this is not a bad scent for a summer's day, but nothing more than a pleasant average Eau de Cologne. And I don't get either of these two in this EdC. Whilst I generally accept the lack of stamina and of longevity in a traditional Eau de Cologne due to the ephemeral volatility of the classic constituents, especially the citrus notes, I expect certain quality indicators to be satisfied before I am willing to give a positive score in the face of poor performance of a Cologne: either a somewhat creative twist to the fragrance composition, or excellent quality of the, preferably natural, ingredients. The sillage is soft, the projection is all right, and I get two hours of shortevity on my skin. After the first thirty minutes this fresh opening recedes to give more leeway to the floral side, which soon in replaced by a generic musky base that remains very nondescript on my skin. Soon a brief white floral interlude appears, mainly muguet and some generic white notes. Thumbs up and recommended for sampling.Ī lovely bright summery lemon with a bergamot background - a classic traditional opening blast for an Eau de Cologne. Longevity is about 6 hours, more if worn under clothing. Projection is about 1 to 2 feet but light and diffusive. As usual, the citrus is most prominent in the opening.
As for its notes, it comes across to me as about 30% lily of the valley, 30% soft white musk and light woods, 25% citrus (lemon, bergamot), and 15% orange blossom (neroli). You may find that you really like the effect that it creates around you. Wear it over the course of a week and allow its subtlety to unfold. It's not the kind of scent that's going to wow you and knock your socks off. It's not going to work its magic if you throw it on for an hour and that's it. As far as sampling this one, try wearing it for a week. What are clean clothes? What's the smell of a fresh shower? Unisex, no? Yes, it's a little expensive, but you'll get a lot of use out of it since it's versatile as can be, and other than New Musk Man by Dame Perfumery Scottsdale, I haven't found anything else as well suited for the job as Aqua Universalis. As far as masculine or feminine goes, this is right in the middle. Those around you might not notice it explicitly, but there will be an awareness of well-groomed cleanliness occurring on a more subconscious level. It will have the same effect on your audience. Even though you won't notice it, it will be there, and suddenly you will notice it and realize how clean and composed you smell. It will stay with you throughout the day. Another thing about it is that it's surprisingly tenacious.
And it doesn't feel weak or insubstantial as "light" perfumes often do. AU is light, but not so light as to be unnoticeable.
Universalis is crisper, more ethereal and deft and I think it smells better too. It makes Mugler Cologne seem a little clod-like in comparison. They say Mugler Cologne is the king of the freshly-laundered arena, but I think Aqua Universalis is superior. But I think it performs exactly as it should-to create a subtle aura of laundry-fresh cleanliness around its subject almost to the point where you may not even think that its subject is wearing a fragrance, but instead is freshly showered and wearing recently laundered clothes that were cleaned with a nice detergent. Maybe people were initially disappointed with Aqua Universalis due to its price versus the relatively subdued delivery with which it performs.
